As I mentioned in a previous post, I am preparing for the 500th anniversary of the battle of Mohács. The newest unit for my Ottoman Turkish Army is a unit of sipahis. They were the hard hitting cavalry force of the Turks.
The figures are from Old Glory Miniatures. I like their sculpts and also they seem to be the most historically accurate figures for this topic. The flag is hand painted after an original Ottoman flag from 1683. The arabic script on it is the Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith.

These look great, I am really looking forward to seeing your Mohacs refight. I am hoping to do one as well and painting up some janissary arquebusiers at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteYou should join our refight! We will play on the actual battlefield on the exact anniversary, the 29th of August.
That sounds fantastic - but I think getting my collection to Mohacs would be beyond my logistic abilities! Please post up pictures of the game.
DeleteIf you’d like, you can also join as a player — you don’t need to bring any figures.
DeleteThat is very kind, and I am tempted by an adventure to Mohacs in the summer - but I already have re-enactment commitments at the same time.
